No visit would be complete without some time spent in and around Alloway, the birth place of Scotland’s most famous bard “Robert Burns”. Ayrshire is synonymous with many of the works of Burns and it is well worth visiting the recently upgraded “Robert Burns Birthplace Museum” which displays the world’s most impressive collection of his life and works.

A short drive to Kirkoswald will take you to Souter Johnnies Cottage, the former home of the shoemaker John Davidson, immortalised by Robert Burns as “Souter Johnnie” in his supernatural tale “Tam O’ Shanter”.

Over to Tarbolton you will find the Bachelors Club which was the atmospheric setting for Burns Masonic inauguration and debating society for single men.

Finally up to Mauchline will take you to the Burns House Museum which was Burns first married home (now the museum). There are letters, poems and artefacts which retell the Mauchline years.
